India and Australia Test Series started off with a huge positive for India, at Nagpur Test. Ravichandran Ashwin mounted 450 wickets, becoming first Indian off-spinner to achieve that landmark. Anil Kumble has amassed 619 Test wickets, in total and he remains on top. India bowled out Australia for mere 177 runs. Ravindra Jadeja took 5/46 and Ravichandran Ashwin took 3/47. Mohammad Shami sent back David Warner (1) and Mohammad Siraj sent back Usman Khawaja (1) to rock Australia back early. India came out to bat with a positive mind set.

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul came out as openers for India. In the first over of the innings, Indian Captain Rohit Sharma has hit Pat Cummins, his opposite number, to 3 boundaries and scored 13 runs. He continued to bat aggressively while KL Rahul remained circumspect. Both of them took India past 76 runs before the end of the day. Rohit Sharma hit his 15th Test fifty for India, in the process.

KL Rahul (20) faced 71 balls for his runs and he got out in the penultimate over of the day, in the bowling of debutant off-spinner of Australia, Todd Murphy. He gave him return catch. Ravichandran Ashwin came out as night-watchman and blocked 5 balls. India ended the day with 77/1 in 24 overs. Australia seems to be on the backfoot after the first day and India needs to bat well on second day to get into the lead and expand their chances to win by big margin on a spin-friendly pitch.
