LSG has been able to do the unthinkable; beat Chennai in Chennai, this IPL 2024. On top of that, they have beaten them twice in back to back matches at home – Lucknow and away – Chennai. CSK, generally, strangles oppositions with spin but they could not accomplish that due to one-man army Marcus Stoinis’s exceptional innings. He scored the winning runs for his team along with a huge century, 124 runs from 63 balls. His wicket made the difference in high scoring chase for LSG.
Earlier, LSG have won the toss and elected to field first. CSK did not get a good start but Captain Ruturaj Gaikwad looked to be in stunning form. Daryl Mitchell(11) and Ravindra Jadeja(16) failed to keep the scoring rate intact. Shivam Dube with his 66 runs from 27 balls gave support to Ruturaj Gaikwad, who scored a handsome century. He scored 108 runs from 60 balls and MS Dhoni finished final ball with a four. CSK scored 210/4 in 20 overs.
With a big target, LSG needed KL Rahul to once again play like he did in Lucknow. But he has been sent back by Mustafizur Rahman while Deepak Chahar got Quinton de Kock in the first over for a duck. When they looked in trouble, Marcus Stoinis kept them in the hunt with his incredible hitting. Devdutt Padikkal(13) failed yet again but Nicholas Pooran(34) found meaty blows when required. Deepak Hooda(17) also added his contribution in the final overs. LSG scored 213/4 in 19.3 overs.
Interestingly, CSK and LSG scores have moved at same rate and one point at the end of 15th over, both teams have been on same score. Ruturaj needed support from Jadeja and Mitchell at the top to push the score over 220 or 225. But he did not find any and his century has gone invain. Marcus Stoinis with an one man army innings gave LSG another memorable win against CSK in a shocking manner.
