ICC T20 World Cup second day had Asian Champion teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka in the action. First match of the day, Sri Lanka vs Ireland finished the first round matches for each team in Group 1. At Hobart, ball seamed and swung for Sri Lanka bowlers as they have been asked to bowl first after Ireland won the toss. India and Pakistan took on each other at MCG, Melbourne and more on that later.

Sri Lanka bowlers did not let Ireland batsmen score freely in the first two overs but Paul Sterling went after them. Andy Balbirnie (1), Lorcan Tucker (10) failed miserably. Harry Tector and Paul Sterling came together. But Sterling (34) got out looking to increase the scoring rate. Harry Tector tried to score fast but spinners Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva (2/25), Maheesh Theekshana (2/19) did not let him and other batsmen. Still, Harry Tector (45) managed to push the score past 100. But Ireland lost four wickets in quick succession reducing them from 107/4 to 118/8 and finished the innings at 128/8 in 20 overs.

Sri Lanka started batting with Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva mixing caution with the hard hitting approach. Dhananjaya (31) got out when score reached 63 in 8.2 overs. Post his dismissal, Charith Asalanka (31) batted through the innings along with Kusal Mendis and Sri Lanka won the match with 9 wickets to spare. Kusal Mendis scored 68 from 43 balls in the 133/1 score from 15 overs. He became the Player of the Match for his stylish knock.

ICC T20 World Cup Super12 Group 1 teams have played one game each and Ireland, Australia are at the bottom of the table. New Zealand and Sri Lanka are topping the group at this moment. India and Pakistan have kick-started Group 2 matches and archrivals have given cricket lovers, a great contest to watch on.
