
Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as MP, after he has been given sentencing. In Surat Trial Court, he got sentencing for 2 years jail term. Rahul Gandhi made comments disrespecting Modi surname, in context of PM Narendra Modi being corrupt. A ex-politician filed case in Surat Court for defamation. Rahul Gandhi has been found guilt of defamation and sentenced to 2 years jail.
Immediately, Rahul Gandhi has been disqualified as MP and has been asked to vacate MP’s Bungalow. He agreed to do so. All the Congress senior leaders have decided to ask him to challenge the Court sentence in higher courts. They wanted to take it to Supreme Court but then decided against it. Rahul Gandhi and his lawyers will file petition in Surat Sessions Court against Trial Court judgement.

Lawyers will ask Trial Court to first strike off Trail Court sentencing. Then, they will ask Surat Court to start revision of case and Rahul Gandhi might appeal to Lok Sabha Secretariat. For now, Rahul Gandhi will wait for Surat Sessions Court decision about his petition. He and his lawyers will file the petition on Monday, 3rd April, 2023. Rahul Gandhi has to be able to contest in the 2024 elections and hence, Congress might request to speed up the Court proceedings.
