Bye-polls were held across India to 30 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha seats recently. While the bye-polls in Huzurabad and Badvel were closely followed by people in the Telugu States, other bye-poll results were closely followed by the national media.
Did the BJP gain or lose? Has the Congress party made a comeback at all? What about the regional parties? Political analyst Amitabh Tiwari writes a summary of what has happened.
He says that the BJP has improved its position by gaining 7 seats and losing the 6 seats it held. The Congress party has been weakened a bit, overall. It gained 4 seats, while it lost 6 seats. The analyst adds that the incumbent parties have lost 18 seats out of the 30 they held before the bye-polls. Since the ruling party has an edge in bye-polls, this is a revelatory trend, he suggests.
