Central Government says Amaravathi has been officially notified as AP Capital!

MP Vijayasai Reddy, questioned Union Home Ministry about the officiality of Amaravathi, as AP capital. Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nithyananda Rai, wrote a letter in answer to Parliament for the question from Central Government.

Central Government has given official statement that AP Government in 2015 has officially notified Amaravathi as state capital. They stated clearly that AP Capital has been selected according to the AP Separation Bill. Central Government stated that they cannot comment further as current AP Government has went to Supreme Court about three capitals, changing capital. Current AP Government has challenged Amaravathi as capital and asked court, how can previous AP government decide capital and who has given them that right. Central Government has now clarified that selection of Amaravathi, as capital has been done by the laws placed in AP Separation Bill.

They have also remarked that current AP Government has passed Three capitals bill in Assembly, but that cannot be official selection. Central Government stated that according to AP Separation Law sections 5 and 6, then AP Government has formed a committee and then arrived at the decision of choosing Amaravathi as capital, according to their recommendations. He further remarked that AP Government has brought new Bill to cancel APCRDA and brought three Capitals bill, in 2020. Later, they have taken back that bill and reinstated APCRDA (AP Capital Regional Development Authority). Central Government cannot comment more about AP Capital issue as case is in Supreme Court and if they say more, it would be subjudice. AP Government wants to change AP Capital to Vizag, now.
