BJP under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah has been looking to keep their strong hold on Gujarat intact after danger bells have been rung in 2017 elections. BJP came to power but with 99 MLAs and Congress gave tough fight to BJP in almost all areas. BJP got 49% vote share last time and Congress got 41%. Many thought BJP after 27 years of being in Government will lose this time around but it is heading towards a record breaking win by winning in 150 above seats.

Already, BJP has won 131 seats and they are in lead in over 26 seats. Congress won only 7 and is in lead in 9 seats. AAP won 3 and is in lead in 2. Others won 4 seats. Over the years, even in the strongest of Narendra Modi wave, Gujarat never yielded such unforgettable record mandate to BJP. In 1995 – BJP won 121 seats and over the years been in power handling anti-incumbency. BJP seats count over the years has been over the minimum majority they need to win – 92 out of 182 assembly seats and this is number they have won over the years – 1998 – 117, 2002 – 127, 2007 – 117, 2012 – 115 and 2017 – 99.

Now, they are heading towards above 155 Assembly seats win, which means there is no sizeable opposition in Gujarat for next BJP government. Congress made history in Gujarat by winning in 149 Assembly seats way back in 1985. Now, BJP has broken that record. Even CPM record of being in power for 34 years (1977-2011) in West Bengal is also in danger. BJP has been in power since 1995 and with this mandate they will be in power for 32 years. If they win next election, then BJP can break number of years in power record while they have already broken consecutive wins – 7 times record of CPM with this one.
