
Mumbai Indians Women have been dominant team in WPL 2023. The inaugural Trophy looked one side tournament with Mumbai Indians Women dominating all other teams. Delhi Capitals Women and UP Warriorz Women could only win against them in round robin league. Mumbai Indians Women had to win against UP Warriorz Women in qualifiers to reach finals. They won against Delhi Capitals Women by 7 wickets to win WPL 2023.
Delhi Capitals Women, whose strength lies in batting, elected to bat first. But Mumbai Indians Women bowlers, mainly Issy Wong, took 3 important wickets in first 6 overs. Shafali Verma (11), Alice Capsey (0), Jemimah Rodrigues (9) got out to Issy Wong. Radha Yadav (27) and Shikha Pandey (27) helped Delhi Capitals Women end with a decent 131/9 with a great partnership for last wicket. Hayley Matthews did not allow DCW to recover mid-innings. Meg Lanning (35) and Marizanne Kapp (18) did well in batting. Amelia Kerr (2/18), Hayley Matthews (3/5) and Issy Wong (3/42) took wickets for Mumbai Indians Women.

Yastika Bhatia (4) and Hayley Matthews (13) failed for Mumbai Indians Women. Nat Sciver-Brunt (60) took them home with an unbeaten knock. She absorbed pressure put by DC Women and Meg Lanning, with her captaincy. Harmanpreet Kaur (37) and Amelia Kerr (14) helped her to reach the destination in the last over. Delhi Capitals Women scored 131/9 in 20 overs and Mumbai Indians Women scored 134/3 in 19.3 overs.

Harmanpreet Kaur, India Women captain, has become the first captain to lift WPL title. She won against World’s best Women’s Cricket Captain Meg Lanning. India could not overpower Australia but Harmanpreet Kaur might feel bit consolation in winning against Meg Lanning team in finals. Mumbai Indians Women showcased great team spirit and strength to win the title. They deserve it and look like a team that will dominate like Mumbai Indians in IPL, in WPL, in coming years.
