India Team fans expected the worse of the team going down by 2-2 in Border Gavaskar Trophy. Australia batted with grit in the first innings of Ahmedabad Test and scored 480 runs. This made many think India will lose the Test match without much fight. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill played well to change that thinking. They have helped India to score 571 and 91 runs lead in the first innings.
The Test match has gone well for 4 days with both the teams not giving away easy runs. Axar Patel (79) looked good and put on 162 runs partnership with Virat Kohli. Had he stayed on, India would have looked at 150 runs lead. Ravichandran Ashwin forced a edge on the last ball of his spell but Kona Bharat dropped it. Australia survived without losing a wicket. India, on the other hand, had to play one batter shot as Shreyas Iyer has been reported to be injured. Virat Kohli batted beautiful throughout the day and scored 186 runs. Shubman Gill scored 128 runs on the third day, putting India in the match.
Now, India can force a result on 5th Day, if they can find Australia wickets in three sessions and limit the target under 50. Australia would look to play out the 5th day and end it as a draw. India cannot lose the BGT trophy but if they win it by 2-1, then they will also qualify to World Test Championship Finals. if they can pull off a win and win the series by 3-1, then Sri Lanka will have no chance to qualify.
