CSK and GT have started the IPL 2023 on 31st March. Rashmika Mandanna, Tamannaah Bhatia and Arijit Singh performed at the opening ceremony. Gujarat Titans aka GT organised the opening match at Ahmedabad, Narendra Modi Stadium. Chennai Super Kings aka CSK challenged IPL 2022 winners in the opening match to kickstart this year’s season. TATA IPL gave a nail-biting opening match to give this season a great start. GT won by 5 wickets against CSK.
GT won the toss and elected to field first. CSK scored 178/7 in 20 overs. Ruturaj Gaikwad gave a great start to the innings. Ben Stokes(7), Devon Conway(1) failed to score. Moeen Ali(23) struggled against Mohammad Shami but when he came into his own, Rashid Khan got him. Ruturaj Gaikwad missed his century as his scored 92(50). MS Dhoni scored 14(7) in the last overs to push score to 178/7. Ruturaj Gaikwad among all the batsmen looked comfortable and confident.
GT needed to score huge but they did not have enough depth. Shubman Gill scored at his own pace and with ease. Wriddhiman Saha(25), Sai Sudharshan(22), Vijay Shankar(27) helped Shubman Gill who scored 63(36). CSK bowlers could not control even though they had a competent score. Rajvardhan Hangargekar(3/36) showed a great promise. CSK failed to find good bowlers to finish the innings.
Tushar Deshpande gave away 51 runs and even in the final score could not control. Rashid Khan with a six and 4 gave struggling Rahul Tewatia confidence to hit winning six and 4. CSK showed weakness in bowling. Even the big players in batting should have delivered. GT managed the score with a team effort. Rashid Khan (2/26) got the Player of the Match.
