Ajith and Vijay have grown as huge stars in Tamil Nadu. Ajith found intially very high acceptance among Telugu audiences too. On the other Vijay used to act in big blockbuster remakes in Tamil. But Ajith lost interest in films owing to his racing career and that resulted in him losing some ground. Vijay built himself well ever since Thuppakki to find more acceptance in other languages too.

Now, both of them have released their films – Thunivu and Varisu, respectively for Pongal. After Veeram and Jilla, that is, after 9 years, they are clashing for Pongal. Distributors have allotted theatres to both the films, according to the agreements they have made with the respective producers. Ajith Thunivu got more theatres and wide release everywhere as Vijay Varisu got postponed in Telugu and Hindi markets. This factor has helped Ajith to overpower Vijay on first day in Tamil Nadu and Worldwide tally.

Thunivu opened the highest for any Ajith starrer in USA and Malaysia markets. Everywhere Ajith Thunivu performed well above expectations while Vijay Varisu performed below the expected mark. Majorly, USA Day 1 stands for Ajith Thunivu at US$416k and Vijay Varisu at US$339k. Well, both the films have positive talk from fans and mixed reviews. Let’s wait and see, how they will sustain during the holiday weekend. Vaarasudu will add to Varisu from Telugu States from 14th January.
