Samantha is getting ready to tell an epic love story on large screen. She joined hands with creative director Gunasekhar for the film, Shaakuntalam. Samantha is playing the role of Shakuntala, who is known as the mother Bharata. India or Indian Subcontinent got the name Bharat or Bharatakandam, because of his rule. Samantha will be seen playing Shakuntala, wife of King Dushyanta and this is their love story.
Shaakuntalam is written by Mahakavi Kalidasa in Sanskrit taking the tale of Bharata, before his birth and few years after. Shakuntala is a daughter of Urvashi and Sage Vishwamitra. Samantha will showcase how Shakuntala had to bore the brunt of society for no mistake of hers. Due to sage Durvasa’s curse, Dushyanta looses memory of Shakuntala and the story reveals how they have united. Samantha watched the final output and praised Gunasekhar.

Gunasekhar has made films like Balaramayanam, Lathi, Sogasu Chudatharama, Manoharam, Okkadu and Rudramadevi. He is coming with Shaakuntalam after Rudramadevi with Anushka Shetty. Samantha is confident about the movie becoming a hit at the box office. Shaakuntalam is releasing on 14th April. Gunasekhar’s daughter Neelima produced the film and Dil Raju is distributing it. Samantha, Allu Arha, Dev Mohan, Mohan Babu, Ananya Nagalla, Aditi Balan, Madhoo acted in the film in main roles. Mani Sharma composed music for the film.
