CSK has found themselves wanting against LSG in their previous two matches of IPL 2024. Twice, they have failed to defend totals against Lucknow Super Giants. Now, CSK needed to win against SRH at home in their typical style. And they came together as a team to bat, bowl and field opponent out of the game like they have been known for.
SRH have won the toss and elected to field first like how they won against CSK by chasing at Hyderabad, earlier. So, they needed their bowlers to bowl at their best and restrict the opponent. SRH could have easily batted first and scored huge to put Chennai under pressure. But they took a calculative decision keeping dew in mind, which ultimately costed them.
Ajinkya Rahane(9) failed for CSK as opener again but Ruturaj Gaikwad kept batting at his best. He kept the scorecard moving. Daryl Mitchell after struggling in the first few overs came into his own and hit his first fifty for his team. He scored 52 from 32 balls. Shivam Dube continued his form and scored 39 runs from 20 balls.
Ruturaj Gaikwad felt powerless but missed out on his century. He scored 98 runs from 54 balls and seemed spent towards the end of his innings. Because of his brilliant innings, CSK scored 212/3 once again at Chepauk. In the chase, SRH did not find the same start like they got used to. Tushar Deshpande sent back Travis Head(13), Anmolpreet Singh(0) and Abhishek Sharma(15) in the powerplay.
Except for Aiden Markram(32), all others failed to score freely as CSK bowlers found tight lines and lengths. Tushar Deshpande(4/27) did well by taking huge wickets. Matheesha Pathirana(2/17) even though not completely fit, delivered a stunning yorker to dismiss Markram. CSK won by 78 runs and exchanged places with SRH on NRR basis. They are currently placed at 3rd on table.
