Lokesh Kanagaraj has become a hugely popular director with Karthi’s Kaithi. He did Master with Vijay and Vikram with Kamal Haasan. After introducing LCU with Vikram, audiences asked more of the characters from the Kaithi and Vikram, films. Fans wanted Leo with Vijay, to also join hands with them. Lokesh did not promise any but Leo has mostly confirmed to be part of LCU. Anirudh and Lokesh have also been hit combination. Let’s see how they did with Leo!
Leo Movie Plot:
Parthiban(Vijay) is a cafe owner in Himachal Pradesh. His wife(Trisha) and kids stay away from danger. Parthiban is an animal rescuer and he saves a school from hyena attack. He adopts it and names it as Subramaniam. His forest ranger friend(Gautam Vasudev Menon) keeps helping him closely, at every stage.

Two low-life thugs(Mysskin and Sandy Master) attack his cafe. To escape from them Parthiban shoots them and gets arrested. He tries to evade media attention, still his photo leaks out. Looking at his photo, Anthony Das(Sanjay Dutt) visits him. He calls him as Leo and Parthiban denies to identify him. Harold Das(Arjun) plans to kill him. Is Prathiban, really Leo? If so, why he is running away from his father? Watch Leo, to know more.
Leo Movie Analysis:
Leo at the surface level is a very old story line but gets a detailed treatment. If a person running away from his past encounters the same, can he save his identity? Lokesh Kanagaraj tried to use History of Violence novel and movie in Indian commercial film style. But in trying to make it more comtemporary and he over-stretched several portions in the second hour. The big action blocks work to an extent but the drama doesn’t really connect with us. Leo suffers with bad character sketch for the actors.

Vijay gets to be Leo and Parthiban. But why he has decided so, doesn’t really spark emotional connect with the character. Lokesh Kanagaraj got the set up and execution in the first hour right, but failed in the second hour. Anirudh Ravichander music helped the maker to tell the story but still major areas are left wanting. Vijay and ensemble cast performances are good but Lokesh Kanagaraj delivered much better films. Somehow, he is unable to get it perfectly right with Vijay as the lead. Leo keeps you engaged till Naa Ready song and then slips through story-telling slopes.
Leo Movie Positives:
Vijay performance
Anirudh Music
Stunt choreography in first hour
Leo Movie Negatives:
Second Hour writing
Over-stretched stunts
Character arcs
Leo Movie Bottom-line: Ends being Ordinary!
