Mumbai has been struck by huge dust storm followed by heavy rains that wreaked havoc. All of a sudden, Mumbaikars faced huge dust storm and then heavy rains, gusty winds followed the storm. A massive billboard collapsed due to the winds and more than 8 people have been killed. More than 100 people were said to be caught under debris.

Due to the storm and winds many poles, trees have been uprooted. An under construction metal parking tower has also collapsed in Wadala Area. Many flights, trains have been cancelled due to this storm. Mumbai Airports and train stations have been submerged under water as well.

Mumbai Police have announced on their X, formerly Twitter, “Today, on 13/05/2024, around 16:30, a sudden storm and heavy rain led to a devastating incident. A metal girder from a billboard, sized 70/50 meters, collapsed at Railway Petrol Pump, Samta Colony, Ghatkopar (E), injuring 37 people. Approximately 50-60 individuals are still believed to be trapped. Our officials, alongside the Fire Brigade, @mybmc, and Mahanagar Gas Ltd, are on-site conducting a search and rescue operation. ”

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has reacted quickly and reached the location to look after the rescue operations. He stated that the government will help all the families affected and he announced Rs.5 Lakhs compensation for each person killed in the billboard collapse. Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis stated that they will investigate into the incident.

Commissioner Police of Mumbai posted on X, formerly Twitter, stated, “Heartfelt condolences to families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate mishap at Ghatkopar today. @MumbaiPolice team is on the spot in the rescue operation. We assure citizens that stringent legal action will be taken against those responsible for this mishap.”
