Union Budget 2024: Government to concentrate on Solarisation!

India to encourage rooftop solarisation as part of net zero emissions target

The most important and interesting point from Interim Union Budget 2024 presented by Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman, is that the Government stated that they are going to concentrate on solarisation in next ten years. PM Narendra Modi has stated at consecration of Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodya, that India will look to move forward in direction of encouraging more environmental friendly renewable source of energy.

He stated that Union Government will be encouraging roof-top solarisation of households in coming days. Financial Minister as emphasised on this aspect as well. She stated that government aims for ‘net zero’ emissions target by 2070. So, their target is to achieve once crore households that have roof-top solar panels for their energy needs is first goal to achieve in that long term aim.

The subsidies to encourage solarisation will be increased in coming budgets as well. Also, to achieve ‘net zero’ emissions, Finance Minister stated that they will try to encourage alternative fuels more and more in the coming days. She stated that one crore households will receive 300 units of free electricity in coming days, through solarisation.

This one step from Union Government seems to be informed and also going into the direction of encouraging usage of renewable resources. Also, railway corridors seem to be hinting in that direction and encouraging Indian private and public companies to go for renewable and sustainable energy resources. This is a great step forward for India to reduce their carbon footprint.
