Mohan Lal has been a huge box office superstar in Malayalam Cinema and a highly respected actor all-over Indian Cinema. He has been able to transcend language barriers to be respected and cast in different languages as well. Recently, he delivered another hit with Jithu Joseph, Neru. And his much awaited and anticipated fantasy film, Malaikottai Vaaliban released on 25th January.
Movie has received so much hype as it marks the collaboration of director Lijo Jose Pellissery with him for the first time. The director has come up with a meta film in fantasy genre with Mohan Lal as Malaikottai Vaaliban. Movie is all about a warrior who cannot be defeated and who seeks a worthy opponent for him.
The movie received strong negative word of mouth on the first day and it crashed during the weekend itself. Many complained that the movie is too slow and not like Baahubali or PS movie series kind of fantasy or folklore that they have anticipated it to be. Also, the narrative choices for it to be slightly weird and dramatic have not impressed some critics and audiences, who had high expectations.
The movie team tried to reverse the trend with promotions and director has even hit out on those spreading derogatory memes and spreading negative feedback on the film. Still, the movie has shocked trade pundits with complete rejection even with such a huge star and celebrated directot at the helm. Movie ends up as a huge disappointment for makers and the actor.
