DC have been able to add their name to the list of teams from IPL 2024, to score above 250 runs in one innings. The high scoring matches have become too routine that people started missing 170-180 close encounters. MI tried their best like they did against SRH to chase down the mammoth total. Just like PBKS, they also looked like pulling off impossible chase but fell short of 10 runs, in the end.
Mumbai Indians, MI have won the toss and elected to field first. Jake Fraser-McGurk started off innings for DC on such an aggressive note that MI bowlers did not have answers to his aggression. Luke Wood suffered the most in his onslaught. Jake Fraser-McGurk scored 84 runs from just 24 balls and DC could put on 114 runs from just 7.3 overs for first wicket due to his innings.
Abishek Porel(36) fell shortly and Shai Hope, unlike his previous innings, aggressively scored 41 runs from 17 balls. Rishabh Pant(29) could not really kick on but Tristan Stubbs scored 48 runs from 25 balls to push DC score past 250 and they ended up putting 257/4 in 20 overs. Jasprit Bumrah(1/35) ended with best figures among MI bowlers.
In the chase, Rohit Sharma(8) and Ishan Kishan(20) failed to give huge start to MI innings. Suryakumar Yadav(26) gave momentum and Hardik Pandya(46) gave his team a chance. Tilak Varma(63) and Tim David(37) took MI close to the target but couldn’t take them past the winning line. MI scored 247/9 in the innings and DC won the match by 10 runs.
Rasikh Salam(3/34) starred with ball taking wickets at crucial moments. Mukesh Kumar(3/59) and Khaleel Ahmed(2/45) also took wickets at crucial junctures. In this season of IPL, scores above 250 have become so common that it has become boring to watch such domination of bat over ball.
