New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner retires from International Cricket

Neil Wagner emotionally bows out from International Cricket

New Zealand pacer Neil Wagner had been one of those rare players who would never give up in any situation. He had been one of those players that New Zealand team throws ball to in dire situations. He would play no matter what with a broken finger or at times even with a broken toe against any team and any batter for his team.

He announced his retirement on 27th February after selectors told him, they won’t picking him for Tests anymore. He stated that the time has come for passing on the baton and move on in his life. He thanked New Zealand team management and selectors for giving him so many opportunities at the highest level.

Neil Wagner thanked Brendon McCullum for shaping his career and got emotional while stating that he won’t be taking the ground next time for New Zealand in Tests. He had been extremely competitive with his pace and strategies no matter the situation for New Zealand, especially, in Tests.

He played in 64 Test matches and took 260 wickets with an average of 27.57. He took 5-wickets per innings 9 times and has best bowling figures of 7/39. His team spirit and never give up nature has been an inspiration for many cricketers. May he pass on his skills to many young and upcoming cricketers. Cheers for next chapter in your life mate!
