Heinrich Klassen announces shocking retirement from Tests

Heinrich Klassen announces retirement from Tests after playing 4 tests

Heinrich Klassen has been one of the most popular cricketers in recent years. IPL and his explosive batting in South African middle-order has helped him gain huge popularity. But he did not become such a success in Tests. He played only 4 test from 2019 till date. His entire Test career has been cut-short by him through his decision.

Following the foot steps of his fellow wicket-keeper cricketer, Quinton de Kock, he made this announcement. Quinton has decided to retire from ODIs in favour of T20 leagues. He would be available for T20I selection for SA but not for ODIs. Heinrich Klassen has now gave up on Test cricket to most probably play in T20 leagues, worldwide, regularly.

He did not give specific reasons but he stated that he had sleepless nights before taking this decision. In a press statement, he wrote, “After a few sleepless nights wondering if I am making the right decision, I have decided to retire from red-ball cricket. It’s a difficult decision that I have made because it is by far my favourite format of the game.”

Well, he stated that he rates the Test baggy cap higher than anything else. But he took this decison due to some undisclosed reasons. Now, he has all the time to improve his play in the middle-order and fill the gap left by AB de Villiers for SA in coming years. He could be looking at playing next T20I World Cups in 2024, 2026 and ODI CWC 2027.
