PM Modi says India will be world leader in semiconductor manufacturing

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has digitally inaugurated 3 Semiconductor manufacturing facilities on 13th March. He laid foundation stones for Tata-Powerchip Semiconductor fabrication unit at Dholera, Gujarat, CG Power-Renesas Outsourced Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility at Sanand, Gujarat and Tata OSAT unit at Morigaon, Assam.

After the inauguration, he stated that he wished and predicted India would be world leader in Semiconductor Manufacturing. He stated that these three plants are investments made with forward thinking to make India, a manufacturing hub. He also stated that this a gigantic step forward to make chips that would read “Made in India” and “Designed in India”. He opined that this will lead to Industrial Revolution 4.0.

PM Narendra Modi also stated that this is first step in making India self-reliant in manufacturing industry as well. He wished for India to become one of the global powers in semiconductor manufacturing by 2029. He also stated that youth of India will have great opportunities with the three semiconductor manufacturing facilities.

PM Modi stated that while India had plans to develop semiconductor manufacturing units from 1960’s, previous governments did not really invest in them with vision. He stated that Indian Government has invested Rs.1.25 Lakhs crores in these three semiconductor manufacturing facilities with a vision towards brighter future.

IT and Telecommunications Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that India will be ready to produce a completely indigenously made electronic chip by 2026. He also stated that more 27,000 job seekers will be getting job opportunities through these facilities. He also echoed PM Modi’s sentiment of India becoming a global power in semiconductor manufacturing by 2029.
