Sundarakanda steps in for empty Vinayaka Chavithi weekend

The upcoming Vinayaka Chavithi weekend, which surprisingly has no major star-studded releases, is now turning into an opportunity for Sundarakanda. With five continuous holidays beginning 27 August, trade circles are curious to see how Nara Rohit’s Sundarakanda will make use of the rare gap. The Vinayaka Chavithi frame has traditionally been lucrative, and this year, all eyes are on how Sundarakanda fares without competition.

Originally, Ravi Teja’s Mass Jathara was scheduled to dominate this slot, but delays in post-production forced the makers to postpone. Had it released, analysts believe the film would have cashed in on the festive advantage. With Mass Jathara stepping aside, Sundarakanda has found itself in a position few medium-budget films ever enjoy — a free festive weekend without heavyweight rivals.

In contrast, the recent Independence Day weekend witnessed Coolie and War 2 clashing at the box office, both only managing average returns. The unusual gap on such a big festive occasion has therefore become the talking point in Tollywood.

Nara Rohit and his team are leaving no stone unturned, pushing aggressive promotions to ensure Sundarakanda grabs audience attention. Industry insiders feel that if the makers can sustain visibility over the next few days, the film stands a strong chance to convert the festive advantage into box office success.

Once Vinayaka Chavithi passes, the schedule tightens again, with September shaping up as a crowded release calendar. The first week itself is expected to witness an exciting clash between Mirai and Ghati, followed by a series of mid- and big-budget films battling for screens.

For now, though, the Vinayaka Chavithi holiday stretch has unexpectedly cleared the way for Sundarakanda. Whether this film can transform the absence of a big-star release into a golden opportunity will be closely watched by fans and trade circles alike.
