15-Year-Old Vaibhav Suryavanshi Aims to Break Gayle’s Historic T20 Record

At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi is dreaming things that even the most accomplished players hesitate to think about. The young Rajasthan Royals batsman has openly declared that his goal is to score 200 runs in a T20 match.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who created a sensation with his devastating batting in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, is now in the news with his announcement. At just 15 years of age, a statement made by this young batsman shocked the cricketing world. In a conversation with former England captain Kevin Pietersen, Vaibhav made it clear that he is not satisfied with just scoring a fifty or a century. He said that his real dream is to score 200 runs in T20 cricket.

When asked by Kevin Pietersen if he likes to celebrate when he scores half-centuries, Vaibhav Suryavanshi unhesitatingly says, “No, not that much.” He then revealed his biggest ambition. Vaibhav Suryavanshi said, “I want to score 200 runs in T20Is. I want to break his (Gayle’s) record.”

Vaibhav Suryavanshi mentions Chris Gayle’s record 175 runs. Gayle, who played for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2013, scored an unbeaten 175 against Pune Warriors India (PWI), the highest individual score in T20 history.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi is confident that he can break this record. “If I bat full 20 overs in a match, I can break the record of 175 runs,” said Vaibhav. This fearless attitude sets him apart from other young players. Vaibhav explained that even during the nervous nineties (overs where the lead was low), he was not under any pressure.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi further said, “No, not at all. I will play my natural game.” Vaibhav’s confidence is not limited to words. He has already impressed everyone with several huge innings. This year, he scored a record 175 runs in the Under-19 World Cup final. Also, he also scored 190 runs for Bihar in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

The most shocking revelation came when Vaibhav Suryavanshi recounted the longest innings of his career. “I batted the full 50 overs and scored 335 not out in a domestic match for our state,” Vaibhav said.
