Director Sudha Kongara is set to transport audiences back to the 1960s with her upcoming political drama, Parasakthi. Known for her keen eye for detail, Kongara has painstakingly recreated the era with period‑accurate sets, costumes and props. The film is set against the backdrop of Tamil Nadu’s anti‑Hindi agitations, a time of social and political unrest that shaped the state’s history.
The film stars popular actor Sivakarthikeyan in the lead role, with Atharvaa, Ravi Mohan and Sreeleela, who makes her Tamil debut. The story follows a group of young people drawn into the student protests and political movements of the period. Scenes feature vintage cars, traditional shops, old railway stations and college campuses, all designed to immerse viewers in the 1960s.
Kongara has emphasised that Parasakthi is more than just a political drama. While it highlights the broader themes of protest and change, it also explores personal relationships, family bonds and the struggles of ordinary people. The director collaborated closely with designers and historians to ensure the setting felt authentic, with every detail reflecting the mood and style of the time.
The film’s music, composed by G.V. Prakash Kumar for his 100th project, has already captured attention. The soundtrack complements both the revolutionary energy and the emotional depth of the story, enhancing the film’s overall impact.
Despite its grandeur, the film has faced challenges with censors due to its depiction of political protests. The team is working to address these issues ahead of the planned release on 10 January 2026, timed to coincide with the Pongal festival.
With its strong performances, meticulous production design and powerful storytelling, Parasakthi promises to be a compelling portrayal of a crucial period in Tamil Nadu’s history. Audiences can expect a mix of gripping political drama and heartfelt human stories that reflect both the challenges and resilience of the time.
