In observance of World Head Injury Awareness Day, Arete Hospitals launched a community initiative, “Heads Up for Safety – Wear a Helmet, Save a Life,” aimed at promoting road safety and preventing head injuries. The campaign focuses on raising awareness about the importance of wearing helmets to reduce the risk of traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) caused by road accidents.
Dr. Ramakrishna Chowdhary Y, Head of Neurosurgery at Arete Hospitals, highlighted the need for such initiatives, stating, “Road accidents are the leading cause of traumatic brain injuries, many of which can be prevented by simply wearing a helmet. As a society, we must take proactive steps to protect all road users, especially motorcyclists and pillion riders who are at high risk.”
As part of the initiative, Arete Hospitals will distribute helmets to its employees to encourage safe riding practices and help reduce head injuries on the road.
Dr. Raveesh Sunkara, Senior Consultant Neurosurgeon, stressed the importance of helmet use, particularly for motorcyclists, pillion riders—including women and children—and delivery executives. He stated, “Traumatic brain injuries from road accidents are often life-altering but preventable. By raising awareness, we hope to instill a culture of safety and responsibility among road users.”
The event also featured Dr. Gajarao Bhupal, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) for Cyberabad, who spoke about the role of law enforcement in promoting helmet use and enforcing traffic regulations. He remarked, “Road accidents remain a major cause of preventable injuries and deaths in our city. Wearing a helmet is not just a legal requirement—it is a life-saving habit that we must all adopt to reduce unnecessary fatalities on our roads.”
Dr. Pavan Kumar, Medical Director & HOD of Critical Care Medicine at Arete Hospitals, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to injury prevention. He stated, “While our emergency department is fully equipped to handle traumatic brain injuries, our priority is to prevent such incidents. A high-quality helmet can mean the difference between life and death. We urge everyone to make safety their top priority.”
Dr. Vijender Reddy, Chairman of Arete Hospitals, reaffirmed the hospital’s dedication to community well-being, saying, “Arete Hospitals is committed to making a difference through continuous awareness initiatives like ‘Heads Up for Safety.’ Too many head injuries occur due to neglecting basic safety measures. By educating the public, we aim to create a culture of safety and responsibility on the roads.”
Through this initiative, Arete Hospitals seeks to make a lasting impact on road safety and reduce preventable head injuries in the community.
