Summer heat in India reaching as its peak . The temperature reaches 42 degrees in the month of April itself. Sun is likely to show his glory with more intensity in May. Meanwhile the AC (air conditioner) usage members increasing severly . Many people buy ACs to escape from the summer heat. ACs, which were once restricted to the upper classes, are now being bought by the middle class as well. However, doctors warn that although ACs reduce our room temperature and give us comfort, they can cause some health problems. Many people suffer from dehydration,
fatigue, breathing problems and reduced immunity without knowing it.
AC reduces the humidity in the air. The weather becomes dry. So we don’t feel thirsty. Drink less water. Our body does not get enough water without realizing it. Dehydration occurs during this time and causes headache, fatigue, dry skin and concentration problems.
Effect on respiratory system:
Cold, dry air also irritates the respiratory system. People who spend a lot of time in AC environments face problems like dry throat, cough, stuffy nose and irritation of the respiratory system. It can be more dangerous for people with asthma, allergies and sinus problems. Rooms with AC units are fully enclosed. Due to this, the gut, allergens and bacteria spread. This further aggravates the situation.
Temperature shock:
Some people face the problem of “temperature shock” due to ACs. When the body changes from extreme heat outside to a cold environment inside, the body becomes stressed due to the change in temperature. The body has trouble getting used to those temperatures. This causes fatigue, headache, muscle stiffness and in some cases reduced immunity.
Check for problems by doing this:
There is no need to completely replace the air conditioner. AC should be set at 24-26 degree centigrade. You should drink water even if you are not thirsty so that your body does not lose water. Make sure that AC air does not hit the body directly.
