VIT-AP University successfully hosted its flagship industry summit, VIKAS 2024 (VIT-AP Innovation & Knowledge Acquisition Summit), on November 8th. The summit, aimed at fostering collaborations among innovators, researchers, startups, and industry leaders, proved to be a landmark event in the university’s commitment to cutting-edge research and sustainable development.
The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Government of India, as the Chief Guest. The summit was presided by Dr. G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of VIT Group of Institutions, alongside senior leadership from VIT-AP University.
VIKAS 2024 showcased over 150 prototypes, products, and research posters from students, faculty, and researchers across more than 30 technical institutions, highlighting the university’s strong commitment to innovation. A major highlight was the signing of 15 strategic MOUs between VIT-AP University and industry partners, designed to strengthen the ties between academia and industry.
Attendees were also engaged in two thought-provoking panel discussions: “Industry-Institute Collaboration for the Next Tech Revolution” and “Swarna Andhra @2047.” These panels brought together leading experts who shared insights on critical issues and future trends in technology and regional development.
Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Hon’ble Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications, Government of India, said that VIKAS 2024 of VIT-AP university is aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision for Vikasit Bharat 2047. He highlighted how, before 2024, India had very few startups, but now the country boasts over one lakh startups. He also pointed out that while there were only four unicorns in the past, by 2024, India has grown to 110 unicorns. He attributed this success to the able leadership of Prime Minister Modi.The Minister also credited Hon’ble Chief Minister Sri Chandrababu Naidu for attracting many leading educational institutions to Andhra Pradesh. He encouraged students to come up with innovative ideas and pursue entrepreneurial ventures, assuring them that the government would provide full support. Minister Pemmasani further praised VIT-AP’s VIKAS 2024 initiative, which aims to foster innovation and assist students with creative and entrepreneurial ideas.
Dr. G Viswanathan, Founder and Chancellor of VIT Group of Institutions, said that according to the 2011 Census, approximately 14 crore people are eligible for higher education in India, yet the country has been able to accommodate only 4 crore students across all colleges and universities. India’s Gross Enrolment Ratio (GER) for higher education stands at just 27%, which is significantly lower compared to countries like Australia and South Korea, where GER is 100%. He urged both the union and state governments to allocate more funds for higher education to ensure better access and opportunities for students.He highlighted that “This summit marks a new era for VIT-AP University, where we aim to be at the forefront of research and innovation.
