India is preparing for for T20I CWC 2024 and they have invited Afghanistan to play a quick T20I series. In this series, they wanted seniors to be back into the Playing XI, along with few others like Shivam Dube to have a run. Rohit Sharma disappointed by getting out for a duck but Shivam Dube made use of the opportunity in the first T20I.
India have won the toss and elected to field first. Rahmanullah Gurbaz(23) and Ibrahim Zadran(25) have been too circumspect at the start of the innings. Azmatullah Omarzai(29) and Mohammad Nabi(42) did give required momentum towards the end of the innings. Hence, Afghanistan scored 158/5 in their 20 overs. Shivam Dube(1/9), Axar Patel(2/23) and Mukesh Kumar(2/33) took wickets for India.
Rohit Sharma unfortunately got run-out due to non-stricker Shubman Gill’s mistake. Gill(23), Tilak Varma(26) kept going after Afghanistan bowlers. Shivam Dube took on the renowned spinners of Afg in his remarkable style. Jitesh Sharma(31) and Rinku Singh(16) helped him in taking India to winning shores.
Shivam Dube after his great season in IPL 2023, continued his form in the first T20I. He scored 60 runs from 40 balls and due to big innings India easily won the match by 6 wickets. They scored 159/4 in 17.3 overs. Mujeeb Ur Rahman(2/21) bowled well for Afghanistan. Dube ended up receiving Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
