Shah Rukh Khan and several Bollywood stars as ambassadors kick started Womens Premiere League, WPL 2024. The Bollywood Badshah entertained everyone in the crowd and women cricketers seemed to be completely bowled over by his charm. This first game of WPL 2024 has been conducted at Bengaluru, this year. Delhi Captials Women and Mumbai Indians Women have played the first match.
After the opening ceremony, Mumbai Indians Women have won the toss and elected to field first. Delhi Capitals Women lost Shafali Verma(1), early. Meg Lanning(35) and Alice Capsey(75) re-built the innings. After scoring 75, Alice got out and Jemimah Rodrigues(42), Marizanne Kapp(16) gave a big finish to their batting innings. DC-W scored 171/5 in their 20 overs.
In the chase, Mumbai Indians Women have also lost their opener, Hayley Matthews for a duck. Another opener, Yastika Bhatia scored 57 runs from 45 balls. Nat Sciver-Brunt(19) gave her good support. After fall of Sciver-Brunt’s wicket, Harmanpreet Kaur started taking control of the chase. She scored 55 runs from 34 balls.
Star Amelia Kerr also scored 24 runs from 18 balls. Harmanpreet fell before the last ball of the innings. Sajeevan Sajana managed to connect the last ball to send it over the boundary for a sixer. Mumbai Indians Women pulled off a thrilling victory to give WPL 2024 a big start. Harmanpreet Kaur won Player of the Match for keeping MI-W in the chase.
