Lucknow Super Giants, LSG, did not win any match against another newly inducted team, Gujarat Titans, GT. Before Sunday game, both the teams have played 4 times against each other and LSG lost all four. But at Lucknow Ekana Stadium, in IPL 2024, LSG has recorded their first win against GT and that too with a huge margin by 33 runs.
LSG have won the toss and elected to bat first. They have been pushed on the back foot after losing Quinton de Kock and Devdutt Padikkal, early. KL Rahul struggled to score freely and made only 33 runs from 31 balls. Marcus Stoinis scored 58 runs off 43 balls to give his team a respectable score. In the final overs, Nicholas Pooran(32) and Ayush Badoni(20) pushed the score to 163/5 in 20 overs.
In the chase, Sai Sudharsan(31) gave a good start to the innings. But Shubman Gill struggled for scoring 19 runs from 21 balls. Even though the openers have given good start with 54 runs in 6 overs, they lost 4 wickets in quick succession. Mainly, Ravi Bishnoi’s stunning catch to dismiss Kane Williamson has given LSG huge boost in confidence to tighten the chase further.
None of the GT batters could score freely and only, Rahul Tewatia could find some runs. He scored 30 runs off 25 balls and took GT score past 120. Yash Thakur took 5 wickets by giving away just 30 runs and gave LSG their first win against GT. Well, the interesting thing is that GT’s 130 in this match, is their lowest against LSG, in all five head-to-head encounters.
