Mumbai Indians, MI, have been struggling with internal and external factors. They needed to secure a victory against Delhi Capitals, DC at Wankhede on 7th April, in IPL 2024. DC have won the toss and elected to field first. MI openers have laid a huge foundation with both of them taking on an aggressive approach.
Rohit Sharma scored 49 runs from 27 balls and Ishan Kishan also scored 42 runs from 23 balls. In just 7 overs, MI scored 80 runs with this aggressive approach. Suryakumar Yadav failed in his first match of the season after recovering from injury. Hardik Pandya(39) could not be at his best but still scored runs. Tim David’s 45 off 21 and Romario Shepherd’s 39 off 10 took MI score to 234/5 in 20 overs.
In the chase, Delhi Capitals, DC have started off with Prithvi Shaw taking on MI bowlers. David Warner(10) gets out early but Abishek Porel(41) supported Prithvi Shaw. Shaw scored 66 runs from 40 balls and got out at the wrong time. Post Shaw and Porel’s dismissals, Tristan Stubbs tried to keep DC in the hunt. He tried his best to chase down the score single-handedly.
He scored valiant 71 runs from 25 balls and showcased great intent, hitting capabilities. Rishabh Pant could not give him any support. DC ended up scoring 205/8 in their 20 overs falling short of the target by 29 runs. With this MI registered their first win of the season. Gerald Coetzee(4/34) took most wickets in the match. Romario Shepherd got Player of the match award for his all-round performance.
