IPL 2024: PBKS lose to LSG despite a great start

Mayank Yadav wins the match for LSG with a great spell

Punjab Kings, PBKS, could not chase down 200 runs against Lucknow Super Giants, LSG despite a huge start. Mayank Yadav took wickets at the right time and due to his spell. PBKS lost the way in the mid-innings when they looked like easily chasing down the big target. They lost by 21 runs and LSG registered their first win in IPL 2024.

LSG won the toss and elected to bat first. KL Rahul did not captain the side in this match due to an injury. He has been subbed with Naveen-ul-Haq in this game. Nicholas Pooran has captained the side. Quinton de Kock scored 54 runs from 38 balls. KL Rahul got out after scoring 15 runs. Nicholas Pooran scored 42 runs from 21 balls and gave huge boost to the innings.

Krunal Pandya gave a great momentum in the final overs. He scored 43 runs from 22 balls. Hence, LSG scored 199/8 from 20 overs. Arshdeep Singh(2/30), Sam Curran(3/28) took most wickets for PBKS. In the chase, PBKS got a huge start with Shikhar Dhawan(70) and Jonny Bairstow(42) putting on 102 runs partnership in 11.4 overs for the first wicket.

At this stage, PBKS needed just one more big hitter to continue the momentum. Prabhsimran Singh(19) tried but got out finding runs. Jitesh Sharma(6) and Sam Curran(0). Even Shikhar Dhawan found it hard to hit Mayank Yadav and his spell of 3/27 changed the game after 10 overs. Mohsin Khan(2/34) also took wickets but Mayank had a huge impact on the game.

PBKS scored only 178/5 in their 20 overs and Liam Livingston(28) could not do much in the final overs. LSG won the match by 21 runs and all thanks to young talent like Mayank.
