KKR defends low score against MI at Wankhede

KKR have not been able to beat MI for 12 years at Wankhede. They needed to prove their mettle this season, IPL 2024, that too after losing a 260 score match. PBKS easily chased down the score and KKR bowlers faced huge criticism. But they have come back strongly to restrict MI in a low scoring game.

Earlier, MI won the toss and elected to field first. Phil Salt(5), Sunil Narine(8), Angkrish Raghuvanshi(13), Shreyas Iyer(6) and Rinku Singh(9) failed for KKR. Venkatesh Iyer(70) and Impact sub Manish Pandey(42) have put on 83-run partnership and that helped thenm to make 169 runs in 19.5 overs.

Nuwan Thushara(3/42), Jasprit Bumrah(3/18), Piyush Chawla(1/15) and Hardik Pandya(2/44) took wickets for MI. In the chase, Ishan Kishan(13) bowled out by Mitchell Starc. Naman Dhir(11) and impact sub Rohit Sharma(11) failed to give a start. Suryakumar Yadav needed to take all the weight on his shoulders.

Tilak Varma(4), Nehal Wadhera(6), Hardik Pandya(1) also failed. Tim David(24) tried hard with Suryakumar Yadav(56) but Andre Russell dismissed Yadav and Mitchell Starc dismissed last three wickets in one over to finish MI innings on 145 in 18.5 overs. KKR won the match by 24 runs even though they admitted to be 40 runs short at the least.

Spinners of KKR Varun Chakravarthy(2/22) and Sunil Narine(2/22) bowled tight lines despite dew. Mitchell Starc(4/33) for the first time made his presence felt in this match with early wicket and quick finish. KKR with this win have moved one step forward to confirm their place in playoffs.
