CSK has been blowing hot and cold this season, IPL 2024. They have not been able to come together and perform as a team in every game as they usually do. On 5th May, against PBKS, it was business as usual for them like in previous seasons. PBKS have won against them in past 5 matches fair and square. Now, CSK needed to definitely win against them and they did it in their typical style.
Once again, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad lost the toss and PBKS chose to bat first. Ruturaj Gaikwad(32) and Daryl Mitchell(30) did not let Powerplay go to waste with a 57-run partnership. But CSK lost Ruturaj and Shivam Dube(0) back to back in Rahul Chahar’s over. Ravindra Jadeja showcased positivity and scored 43 runs from 26 balls.
Harshal Patel ended Shardul Thakur’s aggressive cameo and even dismissed MS Dhoni for a golden duck for the first time in this season. CSK just has been able to make 167/9 in 20 overs. Harshal Patel(3/24), Rahul Chahar(3/23) restricted Chennai. But last match hero Harpreet Brar gave away 19 runs in the only over he bowled while he gave only 16 in the previous one.
In the chase, Tushar Deshpande removed Jonny Bairstow(7), Rilee Rossouw(0) with good balls in the same over. Prabhsimran Singh(30) and Shashank Singh(27) looked settled but trying to hit spinners got out in the deep. After that, PBKS did not find any rhythm and got reduced to 78/7 with all big and consistent performers back in the dug out.
PBKS never looked like recovering and their innings ended at 139/9 in 20 overs. CSK won the match by 28 runs. Bowlers Ravindra Jadeja(3/20), Simarjeet Singh(2/16) and Tushar Deshpande(2/35) never let Punjab batters feel relaxed and back in team. With this win, CSK have jumped up to 3rd place on the table with 12 points to their name.
