IPL 2024: Abhishek Porel gives DC a great rearguard push

Abhishek Porel pushes the DC score to respectable level like Anuj Rawat

Delhi Capitals took on Punjab Kings in their first match at Mullanpur, Mohali. Punjab Kings, the hosts, looked confident to bowl first and bat under the lights. David Warner(29) and Mitchell Marsh(20) took on bowlers in the first overs. Arshdeep Singh sent back Marsh and Shai Hope came out at No.3 position. Highly anticipated Rishabh Pant walked out post Warner got out to Harshal Patel’s bouncer.

Hope scored 33 runs from 25 balls and looked set in the middle but got out to Kagiso Rabada. Pant scored 18 runs from 13 balls and looked a little bit rusty yet good. Ricky Bhui(3), Tristan Stubbs(5) and Sumit Kumar(2) failed in the middle overs. DC have sent in Abhishek Porel as impact sub for Ricky Bhui.

He changed their fortunes in the death overs. He looked confident and found boundaries quite often. He went after Harshal Patel, known as death overs specialist, in the final over. He changed what looked like a 150 finish at best to 174/6. He scored 24 runs from 5 balls in the over with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes.

Like Anuj Rawat for RCB, Abhishek Porel came good for DC with the bat and his rearguard action did push the score over 170 just like how Rawat did. Harshal Patel(2/47) and Arshdeep Singh(2/28) took maximum wickets for Punjab Kings. Now, the hosts need 175 runs to win the match.

IPL 2024: Rishabh Pant scripts a gritty comeback!
