BCCI appoints Gautam Gambhir as new Head Coach

Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as Indian Team Head Coach by BCCI

BCCI has made an announcement that Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as Head Coach for coming three and half years. Earlier, theywelcomed several senior Indian and International cricketers for vacant Head Coach position.

Rahul Dravid, the current head coach, did not show interest in continuing his tenure post T20 World Cup 2024. Indian team wanted to give the all-time great a memorable send-off and they won the cup for him as well.

After Rahul Dravid, many expected VVS Laxman, who has been in contention to follow Dravid after being appointed as NCA advisor. But he also did not show much interest in taking up Head Coach position. BCCI officials wanted Gautam Gambhir to take up the position as he played key role in mentoring Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders in previous three seasons of IPL.

As KKR won the title for the third time, in IPL 2024 season, the news reports about Gambhir being offered the position have surfaced. Even SRK, owner of KKR, stated in his speech after final that he would not stop Gautam Gambhir’s progress to next level. As BCCI did not allow any cricketers to be coaching an IPL team while they are offered national duty, KKR leaving GG has become prominent.
