“Thammudu” stars Nithiin in the lead role and is directed by Sriram Venu. The film focuses on strong emotional bonding between a brother and sister. Nithiin plays Jai, an archery player who once competed in the Asian Games. He dreams of becoming a world champion but struggles due to a mental block. He believes that the guilt from his childhood—when his actions caused his sister (played by Laya) to lose her love—is affecting his focus. Hoping to overcome this guilt and get back on track, he sets out to find her and say sorry.

His sister, Jhansi Kiranmayi, is a sincere government officer working on a dangerous factory accident case. While she visits a place called Ambaragodugu for a local event, Jai goes there to meet her. Meanwhile, the factory owner sends goons to threaten her. The story then revolves around whether Jai can protect his sister and her family. Characters like Chitra (Varsha Bollamma), Ratna (Sapthami Gowda), and Gutthi (Swasika) also play important roles in the journey.

The film was promoted as a strong emotional drama between siblings. However, the emotional connection doesn’t fully reach the audience. The story starts as a family drama, suddenly shifts into a crime thriller, and later becomes an action-adventure film. Trying to mix too many genres affects the storytelling. Director Sriram Venu seems unable to bring everything together effectively. The fictional village “Ambaragodugu” and the sequences involving tribal characters feel unrealistic. The emotional depth the director aimed for doesn’t quite land with the viewers.

Performance-wise, Nithiin delivers well in action scenes but doesn’t get much scope to showcase his acting in emotional moments. Laya’s role was written well but could have been executed better. Sapthami Gowda and Varsha Bollamma do a decent job in their limited roles. Technically, the cinematography and background score are good. There are not many songs, but one stands out. The VFX in the climax, however, could have been much better. While the film is made with good production values, certain areas—especially visuals and realism—feel weak.

Final Verdict:
If you go in with low expectations, Thammudu might entertain you once.

Rating : 2.25/5
