Yogi Babu stands out with his witty one-liners in Chutney Sambar
Yogi Babu stands out with his witty one-liners in Chutney Sambar

Yogi Babu is one of the most in form comedians in South Indian Film Industry. He is able to carry this web series on his shoulders with great ease. His character seems to be drawn straight out of Crazy Mohan universe. Even the storyline seems to have been inspired from his famous sketches. Amudha, the woman in both of their lives, gives them a secret ingredient to make Chutney & Sambar stand-out. The clever twist to make Yogi Babu character, the missing puzzle piece, in making the family complete, is impressive and creative.

Yet, few jokes land perfectly while few have broderline obscenity attached to them. Still, Yogi Babu cracks self-aware jokes and Radha Mohan keeps the story running. Also, his imaginative exploration of Ooty locales also work well with the setting. It offers a pleasant experience to let us involve into the proceedings even though at times, the episodes have filler quality. The makers seems to have edited out a full film into six episodes as at times, abrupt cuts do feature in.

Makers of Chutney Sambar have been able to engage us and keep us hooked to the proceedings for major part. The witty one-liners and self-aware humour does let us chuckle but series misses out on laugh-out-loud moments. Still, for the quality of South Indian web content in comedy space, this is a welcome upgrade. The serious moments being played out with gentle touches of humour does make it worth a watch during this lazy monsoon weekends.
