In the history of Tamil Nadu elections, surprising events are coming out one by one and making people choke. We usually see in many movies a common man defeats a big political leader in an election.. but would anyone believe this incident happened in real life.. but it really happened. These surprising events took place in the Tamil Nadu election results that were released today. We have seen Dalapati Vijay fighting on the side of the common man in many movies on the silver screen.. But now an auto driver belonging to his party has become a ‘giant killer’ in real life and the political giants are making noise. Auto driver K.Vijay Dhamu, who contested on behalf of Tamilaga Vetri Kalagam (TVK) in Rayapuram constituency, is entering the assembly after defeating political rivals.
Defeat the giants..
Raipuram is the hometown of AIADMK senior leader and former minister D. Jayakumar. He has been there since 1991. It is remarkable that such a leader is pushed to the third position by Vijay Dhamu. In this election, Vijay Dhamu secured over 55,000 votes and won with a majority of 14,000 votes. Subair Khan, who stood for DMK, stood second. Jayakumar, who contested on behalf of the AIADMK, was restricted to the third position with just 18,000 votes.
From fan to MLA..
Vijay Dhamu has been active in ‘Vijay Makkal Iyakkam‘ (fan association) for some time now. During the announcement of the candidates, the scene of Dhamu touching party leader Vijay and shedding tears went viral on social media. That is the emotion that moved the voters of Rayapuram today. “We may be newbies, but we have been among the people on the field through fan clubs for years,” said Dhamu in his campaign. In every constituency, Vijay has designed his campaign so that his face is seen more than the candidate’s. In addition to this, Dhamu’s promises to the fishermen community in his manifesto and the creation of infrastructure attracted the voters tremendously. The result came as a big warning to the DMK, which replaced the sitting MLA and fielded a new candidate, and the AIADMK, which lost its grip in its own constituency. Analysts are of the view that Vijay Dhamu’s journey from the auto stand to the assembly as a common man is a proof of the ‘change’ brought by the TVK party in Tamil Nadu politics.
