Netflix has shared a sneak peek into the opening moments of Squid Game Season 3, giving fans a gripping look at what lies ahead. The preview, lasting just six minutes, reveals the unexpected return of Gi-hun, known as Player 456, who had seemingly vanished after the tragic events of the previous season.
The scene begins with Gi-hun rising from a coffin-like box, which appears to have been given as a mysterious gift. Shocked and overwhelmed, Gi-hun finds himself surrounded by other survivors, confused by his return. Visibly broken and distressed, he pleads with the guards to end his life, a stark contrast to his previous resilience. Meanwhile, a separate storyline introduces a team searching for a hidden island linked to strange disappearances, hinting at deeper layers to the deadly game.
Director and creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told Netflix’s Tudum platform that the decision to bring Gi-hun back to the game, rather than eliminate him, was intentional. “The Front Man wants Gi-hun to truly feel the consequences of his choices. He hopes Gi-hun will eventually lose faith in both himself and humanity,” he explained.
Lead actor Lee Jung-jae, who plays Gi-hun, described the moment as a symbolic rebirth. “When the coffin opens, it’s as though he’s being born again. He must face the competition once more and make new decisions.”
Netflix Squid Game season 3 marks the final chapter of the Squid Game saga, promising even greater tension and more emotional stakes. Following its record-breaking success and multiple Emmy wins, the series returns to Netflix today. Here is the trailer.
