Writer Sarath Chandra has opened to a web portal in an intimate interview. He stated that he is able to prove beyond doubt in court that director Koratala Siva has copied from his book Chachentha Prema. Hence, he is keen to press for criminal charges against Koratala Siva, if he doesn’t admit that he is guilty. He stated that Court has found serious copyright infringement in this case.
He has filed case against director Koratala Siva, after the writer-director made blockbuster film, Srimanthudu with Mahesh Babu. Writer stated that he had given Siva his book and then the director replied that he did not copy from his book. Post that he approached a writer, who is part of Writer’s association and then legendary writer Paruchuri Gopalakrishna, helped his material to be authorised about copyright claim.
Later, writer revealed that the team has called him for a compromise and offered him a huge Rs.15 Lakhs as compensation. But he denied the compensation and stated that he needs his name to be put on in Hindi version and he should be given credit but not money. As the makers did not agree, he went to Court. At High Court, he got the confirmation for copyright infringement and then he pressed charges.
Court exempted Mahesh Babu and Mythri Movie Makers from being part of copyright case and then pressed charges on Koratala Siva as the writer-director accepted to take a remuneration amounting to Rs.2 crores for the story and screenplay. Koratala Siva went against this ruling to Supreme Court and the apex court canceled his plea.
Now, the writer wants the director to go to jail if he doesn’t accept his wrongdoing by copying his work without permission. The writer in the interview also stated that major romance drama in the movie has been taken from his novel.
Also, he stated that even conflict between the village and hero’s father has been taken directly from his novel. He stated that he will go against Mahesh Babu and Mythri Movie Makers as well.
