Sekhar Kammula’s slow pace raises fans’ concerns

Sekhar Kammula

Celebrated Telugu film director Sekhar Kammula has recently completed 25 years in the film industry. He made his debut in 2000 with Dollar Dreams, a film that was praised for its fresh storytelling. In these 25 years, Kammula has directed only 11 films—a relatively low number for a filmmaker with such a long career.

Kammula is known for his careful approach and long gaps between movies. After his first film, he took nearly four years to release his second. On average, he spends over two years on each film, focusing on strong scripts and emotional storytelling. His last three movies, however, were released with exactly three-year gaps in between.

In 2014, he directed Anamika. Three years later, in 2017, he released Fidaa, which became a massive hit and was loved by audiences. Again, he waited three more years to bring out Love Story in 2021, starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi. That film also did well at the box office.

Now in 2024, Sekhar Kammula has returned with Kuberaa, featuring Dhanush, after another three-year wait. The film received great reviews and has become a commercial success. This success has made fans eager for his next project.

Although fans are hoping for a quicker release, there has been no official announcement yet. Reports suggest he will work again with the producers of Kubera, and that the script is already being developed. Still, insiders believe that it may take at least another three years before the next film is released.

Some in the industry have started questioning this slow process, saying it affects the flow of creativity in cinema. Fans, however, continue to support Kammula, hoping he will surprise them with an earlier release next time.
