VIT-AP Hosts International Conference on Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling

VIT-AP University marked a significant milestone by hosting its first-ever International Conference on Computational Science and Mathematical Modelling (ICSMM-2025), organized by the Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The prestigious event, held on July 18, 2025, brought together global experts, researchers, and academicians to explore cutting-edge advancements in computational science and applied mathematics, setting the stage for groundbreaking discussions and collaborations.

The inaugural ceremony was graced by Shri P. K. Sinha, Director of Computational & Fluid Dynamics at the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, as the Chief Guest. In his keynote address, Mr. Sinha underscored the pivotal role of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in the design and development of state-of-the-art missile systems critical for national defense. He elaborated on how CFD enables engineers to analyze aerodynamic performance, structural integrity, and system efficiency through advanced high-performance computer simulations. “CFD provides critical insights into aerodynamic parameters such as lift, drag, stability, and missile control surface responses, ensuring trajectory accuracy and target precision,” he stated. He further highlighted CFD’s role in assessing thermal loads and structural stresses, which guide design refinements to enhance both performance and safety.

The event was further elevated by the virtual presence of Prof. Fortune Massamba, Academic Leader from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, who served as the Guest of Honor. Prof. Massamba emphasized the importance of cross-border collaborations in advancing computational science and applied mathematics. Expressing his enthusiasm for strengthening academic ties between Africa and India, he remarked, “Such partnerships are vital for fostering innovation and addressing global challenges through shared knowledge and expertise.”

Prof. SV Kota Reddy, Vice Chancellor of VIT-AP University, delivered an inspiring address, highlighting the transformative impact of mathematical modelling and CFD in real-world applications, from engineering to sustainable technologies. He also showcased VIT-AP’s commitment to fostering industry-academia partnerships and outlined the university’s ambitious plans to contribute to national missions on Quantum Technologies and Green Hydrogen, aligning with the Andhra Pradesh Government’s Swarnandhra Vision 2047. “Our focus is on creating a robust ecosystem for research and innovation that supports both academic excellence and societal progress,” he added.

The conference was warmly welcomed by Prof. S Srinivas, Dean of the School of Advanced Sciences, who set an inviting tone for the event. He expressed his hopes for vibrant knowledge-sharing sessions and the forging of new collaborations over the two-day conference, concluding on July 19, 2025. Dr. Prashanth Maroju, the Conference Convener, elaborated on the vision and objectives of ICSMM-2025, emphasizing its goal to bridge theoretical advancements with practical applications. The inaugural ceremony concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Dr. Sukanta Nayak, acknowledging the contributions of all participants and organizers.

ICSMM-2025 promises to be a dynamic platform for exchanging ideas, showcasing innovative research, and fostering global partnerships. With a focus on computational science and mathematical modelling, the conference is poised to inspire new breakthroughs that will shape the future of technology and scientific discovery. VIT-AP University’s initiative reflects its commitment to academic excellence and its role as a catalyst for transformative research, making this event a landmark moment in its journey toward global recognition.
