The highly anticipated web series Citadel: Honey Bunny, featuring Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on November 7. Directed by the talented duo Raj & DK, the series is generating buzz as fans eagerly await its release.
In a recent interview, the directors and writer Sita R. Menon shared insights about the series, particularly in light of its comparison to the Hollywood film Mr. and Mrs. Smith following the release of the trailer. Raj clarified that there is no direct correlation between the two works, emphasizing their commitment to creating something unique. “We have never aimed to replicate anything,” he stated, underlining their desire for Citadel to stand apart from their previous series, The Family Man.
Raj & DK explained that their goal was to ensure Citadel diverges significantly from their earlier projects. They made a conscious decision that none of the visual elements from The Family Man would appear in this new series. “It’s a fictional universe, and while there are spy agencies, they are not government entities,” they elaborated. The characters Honey (played by Samantha) and Bunny (played by Varun Dhawan) were crafted from Sita Menon’s creative vision, with both roles receiving significant emphasis.

Responding to a question about competition with other filmmakers, Raj & DK asserted that they do not see themselves in rivalry with anyone. “We are not competing with other film makers; we are simply focused on our own narrative,” they affirmed.
Sita Menon also contributed to the creative process, sharing that she presented two story ideas to Raj & DK, one of which was selected for development. “We collaborated closely to finalize the script, and it took us nearly five years to complete,” she revealed, highlighting the dedication and time invested in bringing Citadel: Honey Bunny to fruition.
