The producer who asked for 15,000 and paid 1,10,000 to Rajini

Rajinikanth has won the hearts of millions with his stylish and dynamic performances. For over 45 years, he has remained a superstar and a box office king, with producers confident in his ability to deliver hits. His latest release, Jailor, has collected an impressive ₹650 crore, making it one of the highest-grossing Tamil films of the year. Currently, Rajinikanth is the highest-paid actor not just in India but across Asia, reportedly earning ₹280 crore for his upcoming film Coolie.

At the start of his career, Rajinikanth earned only a few thousand rupees, receiving just ₹3,000 for his first film at the age of 16. He played the lead role for the first time in the 1975 film Bhairavi, which marked a turning point in his career, earning ₹50 lakh for that project. Following this success, his remuneration skyrocketed.

In the film Priya, directed by S.B. Muthuraman and produced by Panchu Arunachalam, Rajinikanth initially requested ₹35,000 for his role, but after learning that the film would be shot abroad, he revised his ask to ₹15,000. However, Arunachalam recognized Rajinikanth’s growing market value and insisted that he deserved more. He offered ₹1,10,000, marking the first time Rajinikanth’s remuneration crossed the one lakh mark. Today, he stands as the highest-paid actor in the industry.
