Director Lokesh Kanagaraj revealed that Monica was created as a tribute to Italian actress Monica Bellucci, a long-time favourite of both him and music composer Anirudh Ravichander. The team poured their heart into the song, with Pooja delivering an eye-catching performance that perfectly matched Anirudh’s infectious composition.
In a surprising twist, the tribute actually reached Monica Bellucci herself. The connection was made possible by Bollywood journalist Anupama Chopra, who sent the song to a film festival head acquainted with Bellucci. That contact then passed the song along to the actress. According to Anupama, Bellucci enjoyed the track, making the tribute even more special for the Coolie team.
Speaking in a recent interview with Anupama Chopra, Pooja Hegde admitted she was both shocked and thrilled to learn that the Italian star had seen and liked the song. She expressed that Bellucci is not only admired by her personally but also by her entire team, making the moment even more meaningful.
Pooja also recalled how fans on social media had tagged Bellucci after the song’s release, encouraging her to watch Coolie. While Monica has been dominating YouTube views and Instagram reels, the filmmakers have confirmed that the track will not feature in the film itself—it was produced solely for promotional purposes.
