The Telugu box office could be headed for a high-voltage clash this September as Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2 and Pawan Kalyan’s OG are both slated for release on 25 September. However, industry talk suggests Akhanda 2 might not be ready in time, sparking speculation of a delay.
Directed by Boyapati Srinu, Akhanda 2 is the much-anticipated sequel to the blockbuster Akhanda. Its makers had locked in the September date, but with extensive VFX work still pending, questions remain about whether post-production can be completed as planned. Meanwhile, OG, directed by Sujeeth, has officially confirmed its release on the same date.
Interestingly, OG was initially scheduled for September last year but was postponed for various reasons. The film, set against a Kolkata backdrop, is now targeting a nationwide release, reflecting Pawan Kalyan’s growing pan-India appeal. Similarly, Akhanda 2 is also being positioned as a pan-India project, following the strong reception of the dubbed Hindi version of the first film.
If both films hit theatres on the same day, it will be a celebration for fans, albeit with an intense box office battle. With OG and Akhanda 2 offering distinct genres, trade analysts believe the overlap might not heavily dent collections if the content delivers.
Adding another layer to the clash is the fact that music composer Thaman is behind the soundtrack for both films, meaning he could end up competing with himself on release day.
Should Akhanda 2 be postponed, OG could enjoy a solo festive release, giving it an edge in terms of screens and audience attention. But if Balakrishna’s film meets its deadline, Dasara 2025 might see one of the biggest cinematic face-offs in recent years.
For now, fans of both stars are eagerly watching for official updates. Whether it’s a double treat or a rescheduled showdown, September is shaping up to be a pivotal month for Tollywood.
