Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has made headlines with his recent decision to sell half of his stake in Dharma Productions, marking a significant move in the Indian entertainment industry. The deal was signed by Indian businessman Adar Poonawalla, who will acquire a 50 percent stake in both Dharma Productions and its digital wing, Dharmatic Entertainment, under his company, Serene Productions.

This landmark agreement values Dharma Productions, a leading film and television production and distribution company, at approximately ₹2,000 crores. Established in 1976 by the late Yash Johar, Dharma Productions has grown into a powerhouse in Bollywood under Karan Johar’s leadership, delivering numerous blockbuster hits. The production house has been behind more than 50 films, including box office successes like Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
In addition to his film ventures, Karan Johar expanded into the realm of digital content in 2018 with the establishment of Dharmatic Entertainment. This subsidiary has since produced popular shows for major global streaming platforms such as Netflix and Amazon Prime, further cementing Johar’s influence in the ever-evolving entertainment landscape.
