Rohit Shetty has created a brand for himself with films like Golmaal and Singham. His style of action setting and huge scale car chases and over-the-top comedy has become a blockbuster recipe at Indian box office. He could not come up with similar kind of entertainers with Sooryavanshi and Cirkus. While Sooryavanshi did become a success at the box office, it did not become a value addition to Singham and Simmba films’ Cop Universe. Adding several characters to them, he has come up with web-series, Indian Police Force, for Amazon Prime Video. Let’s discuss about the series.

Plot:

DCP Kabir Malik(Siddharth Malhotra) and Joint CP Vikram Bakshi(Vivek Oberoi) go on a mission to catch Zarar(Mayyank Taandon), a terrorist, who is living with a fake identity as Haider. They meet ATS chief Tara Shetty(Shilpa Shetty) and decided to stop further plans after the terrorist executes serial blasts. How will they catch him and stop further blasts is the plot of the series.

Analysis:

Major web-series have such terrorist underbelly plots and Family Man, another popular Amazon Series has used it to create an exciting one. The balance of comedy and clever investigation plot twists have made Family Man, a must watch. But Rohit Shetty could not bring his style of humor and heavy action stunts to the fore in this one. Singham style serious heavy action episodes and goosebump inducing moments have been USP of Rohit Shetty in his cop films. Also, both Singham and Simmba, the big blockbusters of Rohit Shetty with cops as lead protagonists have been remakes of South Indian films like Singham and Temper. That did help Shetty to craft unique films with cop characters.

Now, he has huge ambition to expand it all into a huge Cop Universe with Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, Ranveer Singh as leads. There are also chances of Salman Khan kind of actors also being added to the cast of Cop Universe. So, Indian Police Force has been a huge opporunity for him to add even more characters to the same Cop Universe. Siddharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty and Vivek Oberoi kind of actors also being added to it as been the USP of this series within the Universe. Blending serious plots with comedy, that too, a massy one is Rohit Shetty’s USP and this series doesn’t really get it right.

Also, OTT audiences have a different style of sensiblities and Rohit Shetty tried too hard to cater to them with his OTT action and humor sense. While the sweeping aerial shots and long crane swipes too add the scale, they do not add to the excitement at all. Writing with so many writers fail to connect us with the main plot and characters. The lack of depth in the character building and even the thin plot line add to the complications of the series. The series grows less engaging with each episode and underwhelms us completely.

Positives:
Production scale
First episode

Negatives:
Action episodes
Lack of compelling writing
Bad Plot
Predictability
