I didn’t know Telugu, but I understood the emotion: Malavika Manoj

Malavika Manoj makes her Telugu debut in ‘O Bhama Ayyo Rama’ and says she feels lucky to play Satyabhama. Rising actress Malavika Manoj, known for her impressive performance in the Tamil film Joe, is all set to make her Telugu debut with the romantic comedy entertainer O Bhama Ayyo Rama. The film, starring Suhas in the lead, is directed by Ram Godala and produced by Harish Nalla under the V Arts banner. The movie is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on 11th July 2025.

Malavika shared her excitement about stepping into Tollywood and playing the character of Satyabhama—a bold, modern, and hyper girl, which is a clear shift from the simple village roles she has portrayed before. She revealed that she was selected for the film after the director watched her in Joe and was impressed by her acting. “The story felt very different and refreshing. My character is nothing like me in real life, but I thoroughly enjoyed playing it,” she said.

Despite not knowing Telugu, Malavika said she understood the emotions behind the dialogues and performed accordingly. “Everyone on set was very professional, and I felt extremely comfortable. Language was the only challenge, but even that didn’t feel like a barrier,” she added.
Talking about a challenging scene, Malavika mentioned a swimming sequence. “I don’t know how to swim, but I didn’t want the shoot to be delayed, so I just did it despite being scared,” she said with a smile.

The actress also shared her appreciation for co-star Suhas, calling him hard-working and focused. “He speaks only about the film on set. He’s very dedicated,” she noted.

When asked about the romantic scenes in the film, she said they might seem like typical love scenes, but they’ve been treated in a unique way that audiences will surely enjoy. She also expressed her joy over the film’s music getting a great response, stating, “All the songs touched my heart.”

Coming from a non-film background, Malavika said her family initially had concerns about her acting career, but they are now proud after watching the trailer. She emphasised that she only accepts roles that she feels comfortable in and always chooses scripts she genuinely connects with.

O Bhama Ayyo Rama marks a new chapter in Malavika’s journey, and she hopes the Telugu audience will support her just as much as her fans from other languages have. “I feel very lucky to play this role. It’s a special one,” she concluded.
